Come along to the Paper and Smiles Studio and join in with one of our art and craft workshops, most of our workshops are suitable for all ages and abilities - please check out the full detailed description in the shop listing for more specific details on each workshop.
  
The Studio is located in a peaceful corner in the grounds of Woodborough Garden Centre - you can make a full day of your visit as there are lots of other independent businesses onsite including antique and gift shops, a beauty salon and hairdressers, cafes and of course the garden centre itself.

Beginners Arm Knitting - Arm Knit a throw with Sophie from A Boat Full of Wool

Learn how to knit an on-trend arm knitted throw perfect for any interior, great to snuggle under on those chilly evenings or the perfect present for a loved one!

Suitable for Complete Beginners

The workshop includes 2 Kg of Vegan giant yarn to make a throw the rough size of 24 inch wide X 67 inch long. You can choose your colour choice of yarn upon booking.

Beginners Sewing Workshop with Ramona from R Hensel Fashion Design

This is the perfect introduction to sewing and using your sewing machine.  You will learn how to hem, line, gather, how to sew a button hole with your machine, sew on a button and attach a pocket.


All materials are included. Just bring your sewing machine and sewing essentials (pins, hand and sewing machine needles, thread, scissors, measuring tape, chalk).

Jewellery Moves - Silver Ring Workshop

Each participant will learn the skills and techniques to make two silver rings (one will be hand-stamped and personalised). At the workshop you will learn to saw, file, hand-stamp, solder and finish two silver rings which fit you perfectly. The cost of the workshop is £65 per person and includes all materials and instruction (no previous experience is necessary).

Stained Glass Tealight Holders with Lizzie from Merlin Glass and Art.

During this full day work shop you will get the opportunity to make a beautiful Stained Glass Tea Light Holder, there will be several design choices available on the day, those are yet to be confirmed.

I aim to run a fun and relaxed Workshop, where you will learn to make a beautiful Stained Glass Tea Light Holder to take home with you.
We will start off by learning about the basic tools and techniques required for Copper Foiling, move on to practising cutting on clear glass, before choosing your glass from a wide variety of textured and coloured stained glass. You will then learn how to grind the edges, apply the copper foil and finally... the exciting part... solder your tea light holder together.
There will be a variety of glass colours to chose from for you to make an amazing creation to treasure!

Pattern Cutting Workshop - Draft a skirt - with Ramona from R Hensel Fashion Design.

In this workshop you will learn how to take measurements and draw your own basic skirt pattern. You will then make a toile (trial) skirt and tweak the fit, which will be added to the basic pattern.

All material is included. If you have, bring a big ruler, a triangle ruler, measure tape, fabric scissors,
paper scissors, pins and a pencil please bring them along.  You can also bring your own sewing machine, although there will be one that can be used by everyone.

Beginners Freehand Machine Embroidery with Meg from May I Design

In this workshop you will learn how to hoop up your fabric and set your machine up ready to create wonderfully wobbly lines. 
You’ll then get to grips with using your machine without feed dogs, ‘drawing’ with your machine and adding splashes of colour with fabrics.
By the end of the class you’ll have a selection of sample pieces and have created your very own framed card to take away. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Free Hand Machine Embroidered Lampshade Workshop with Meg from May I Design

In this workshop you will learn how to create a lampshade using freehand machine embroidery. By the end of the workshop you will have your own 20 cm drum lampshade that you can use as either a ceiling light or on table lamp. You can create one of your own designs or you can work from my example lampshades.
